Immensely overblown and visually ambitious, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is a disheartening return to the Superman saga. For starters, the biggest blunder in the film is its completely glossed over tale of a boy's struggle with morality. Will this youngster, who is capable of things far beyond our human understanding, use his abilities for good or evil? Buried somewhere deep inside of this jumbled blend of action-overkill and unbounded special effects is a dark story banging on the walls and screaming to come out. It's what we all hoped Man of Steel would deliver (after all, it had Christopher Nolan's stamp on it). But to the contrary, Snyder and his team of clueless wonders attempt to trade depth-creating story for big-budget action sequences, and it ultimately fails. As a result, Man of Steel culminates as a frustrating hollow shell of something destined to be far greater than what we're given.Although the summer blockbuster cashes in on its gaudy and overly-long action-packed third act, Man of Steel still manages to feel like a slap in the face to its audience. Snyder offers a non-chronological opening portion to the film that's meant to transport the moviegoer into the psyche of its superhero. These short-lived flashbacks to his childhood serve as many of the picture's finest moments. However, there reaches a noticeable turning point when Snyder sacrifices the feature's story for non-stop thrills, as if that's what his audience craves. Perhaps I'm way off base, but I went into Man of Steel desperate for a more cerebral superhero movie. But instead, the team behind this Superman reboot cheapen out with a careless and muddled story trapped behind an insurmountable wall of special effects. I feel cheated.
Before I continue to speak harshly about this year's most anticipated film, let me point out some small positives to the movie. Hans Zimmer is an amazing film composer and his score is, once again, brilliant. It's a regularly overlooked aspect of cinema that I felt needed to be commended in this instance. Furthermore, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams both give above average performances that leave a tiny inkling of hope that, maybe with an unwavering dedication to telling the right story, a future installment could be something special. Somewhere beneath all of the muck that is Man of Steel lies a deeper and darker examination of Clark Kent. I guess we'll just have to continue waiting for it.Stars: 1 and a half stars out of 4Grade: C-

Choose to trust today in the God who can calm the storm and part the waters.
(Lynch #19) Photo credit to thebiglead.comIn 2011, Lynch had a Clowney-like year at Notre Dame. As far fetched as it may sound, it is completely accurate. Unfortunately, Lynch decided to transfer to USF because he was home sick. The transfer made him ineligible to play in 2012. Lynch will return next season as one of the most dominant forces in college football.We all Clowney possesses a quick twitch off of the snap, but Lynch's reaction time rivals Clowney's. Lynch gets up and out of his stance and into the opposing lineman's play before anybody else has even stood up. Despite his larger frame for a 4-3 DE, Lynch moves around rather quickly. His closing speed enables him to run over and wrap up the QB without him even being able to react. Against Michigan State, Lynch flew past the Guard nearly untouched and hit the QB before any routes could develop at all. Kirk Cousins (Michigan State's QB) didn't have a chance considering it was on his blindside. Although, his quickness isn't just in his feet. He sports a nasty swim move that is both quick and powerful. The lethal combo of speed and power leaves most offensive lineman completely helpless.Lynch's athleticism expands beyond quickness though. He can drive opposing lineman right into the QB's lap or into a running lane and completely disrupt a play before it even begins. Lynch also sheds blocks well in the run game and dominates the point of attack. One of his few flaws is that he depends almost solely on his initial move when pass rushing. If his initial move isn't successful, he has been shut down. Lynch simply struggles to disengage after the opposing lineman has stuffed his first move. That being said, he is still a lethal pass rusher and a freak athlete. He currently ranks in my top 15 prospects of the 2014 class, but I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a top 10 appearance by the end of the season.

Today, the Celtics beat the Knicks in overtime, 97-90. They aren't done yet. They might be done in a few days, but not now. Now they can enjoy this for a few hours. They won a playoff game. Tonight's USOTN goes to poor performance of Avery Bradley. Bradley, despite playing 39 minutes, scored just 3 points on 1/7 shooting. He needs to do better than this. It didn't hurt them today, but it might in game 5. He needs to practice his shot a little. I honestly don't know how to feel about this. I want to be happy, but I don't know if I can. They're still gonna lose this series. That thought makes this win feel meaningless. But when I think that, I think of Yankees-Red Sox '04. We should all think that.
