Jersey City, NJ, theatrical equipment company cited by OSHA for exposing workers to workplace safety and health hazards

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Acadia Scenic Inc., which builds scenery for the entertainment industry, with 22 safety and health violations, including two willful. The citations followed an April inspection, prompted by the agency's Health-High-Hazard Top 50 Local Emphasis Program and its Amputations and Combustible Dust Emphasis Program. Proposed penalties total $49,600.The willful violations, with $28,000 in penalties, were cited for a lack of guarding on hand-fed circular ripsaws and crosscut table saws. A willful violation is one committed with intentional, knowing or voluntary disregard for the law's requirements, or with plain indifference to worker safety and health.The 19 serious violations, with $21,200 in penalties, include the company's failure to keep the workplace clean and orderly; prevent accumulations of explosive dust; provide railings on stairs; establish or implement a written respiratory protection program for workers required to wear respirators; have fire extinguishers mounted and readily accessible for use; and provide an educational program on the general principles of fire extinguisher use and hazards involved for workers expected to fight incipient stage fires.The company was also cited for failing to provide machine guarding for a miter saw; provide spreaders and nonkickback devices on two hand-fed circular ripsaws; properly adjust a work rest on grinding machinery; determine each employee's exposure to methylene chloride; provide appropriate gloves and eyewash facilities for workers using methylene chloride-containing adhesives; and develop and implement a written hazard communication program that includes training for workers exposed to hazardous chemicals. A serious violation occurs when there is a substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known."Each of these hazards threaten the company's ability to provide employees with a safe and healthful work environment, and should be corrected immediately," said Kris Hoffman, director of OSHA's Parsippany Office. "OSHA will continue to hold employers responsible when they fail to protect their workers."Inspectors also cited the company for one other-than-serious violation, which carries a $400 penalty, for not recording a workplace injury on the employer's OSHA Form 300 Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. "Some choose to believe they're a trooper or soldier/But they're pawns on the frontline, at dawn when the sun rise/Lost with a dull mind, financially desperate/In the presence of management they stand at attention/"This is probably the coolest video I've seen from these guys. The song itself is dope enough, but they added the icing to the cake with these visuals. I really like the theme of this track, and as always, these guys nailed it. I've always thought The Palmer Squares were crazy, sometimes too crazy. It's sick hearing them tone it down a notch to simply get a point across. With that being said, it's a very small notch haha. This shit's still amazing. Check it!

The loss moves the Yankees to (23-14) on the season.Indians Starter Justin Masterson was masterful against the Yankees earning his sixth win of the season. Masterson went the distance for a complete game shutout, only allowing four hits, three walks, and was able to strikeout nine batters including Vernon Wells to end the game.David Phelps did his best to keep up with Masterson, but had one mistake pitch which cost him the game. For Phelps it is his second loss of the season, as he went 6.2 innings allowing only one run on a Jason Kipnis solo-homerun in first inning which ended up being the only run of the game. The battle for the fifth spot in the rotation has to be Phelps’ to lose now with another strong start today.Joe Girardi stacked the lineup with lefties early, but it didn’t workout for the Yankees. The top four hitters in the order Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki, Robinson Cano, and Travis Hafner all went hitless.Corban Joseph mad his major league debut at First Base for the Yankees a position he isn’t use to playing, but he did a good job. At the plate Joseph went zero for two, but was able to work a walk. In the second game Joseph will be getting the start a Second Base for Cano.The Yankees will look to bounce back quickly from their Game 1 loss in Game 2 of the double header, as Vidal Nuno will make his first start of the season against Trevor Bauer (1-1, 2.70).

The Suns have hired Ryan McDonough to replace Lance Blanks as the teams new general manager in hopes of improving on a 25-57 record from this season.Hiring McDonough instantly raised questions as it’s rare to find a team with executives in their 30′s. Dating back to the creation of the league, only a few men have been named the general manager of an NBA team at such a young age, including Rick Sund and Rob Hennigan.Sund was named the Dallas Mavericks general manager in 1979 at the age of 28 to become the youngest ever to hold such a position. Hennigan is currently the youngest to oversee a team at 30-years-old. He we named the Orlando Magic’s general manager in 2012 and they have stuck with him ever since.McDonough will join the Phoenix Suns after three years as assistant general manager for the Boston Celtics. The newly appointed executive worked his way up after joining the Celtics as a special assistant to basketball operations at 23-years-old. The Suns may have brought in a young guy, but this guy happens to have a lot of experience in an NBA front office. Abclocal reportedThe Phoenix Suns are coming off their second worst record in franchise history, so it can’t be all that bad when they have a 33-year-old GM hired and ready to add some life to the organization.They fired Lance Blanks on April 22nd and have now found themselves a man who was involved in two NBA title runs with the Celtics, including a championship in 2008.Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby released a statement about their newest employee and he looks to be very excited to have McDonough come aboard.“Ryan distinguished himself among an impressive group of candidates for our GM position,” he said. “His natural leadership and communication skills will serve the Suns well.”Now with a leader in the office they can focus on finding a leader for the court. Once the NBA playoffs are over, players will start varying their options and the Suns will do the same as they look to rebound after a terrible season in 2013 with their new 33-year-old GM hired and ready to go.
